Here are what I found to be the 5 most useful breastfeeding apps I've come across.
First let's start off with this app by Nancy Mohrbacher. It is fantastic! Pretty much an entire Breastfeeding textbook in an app. I love it and it is totally worth the money! Available worldwide for Android and iPhones/iPads.
Created by the Medela breast pump people, this FREE informative app lets you carry a wealth of breastfeeding knowledge at the touch of a finger. It specializes in breastpumping tips, breastmilk storage guidelines, and the benefits of breastmilk. Additionally, it can track feeding schedules of up to 6 babies and also find breastfeeding/pumping-friendly locations in your area. Available for iPhone/iPads only.
This free app is geared towards health care providers, however it contains valuable information regarding latch and positioning, donor milk, principles of milk supply, and medications and breastfeeding. I have heard that non-health care providers also found it helpful. Available for Android and iPhone/iPads.
Official La Leche League Canada iPhone App. La Leche League Canada’s mission is to encourage, promote and provide mother-to-mother breastfeeding support and educational opportunities as an important contribution to the health of children, families and society. And although this is an app made for Canadians (it includes meeting locations & times) it does however help us Americans as well! It includes a great breastfeeding FAQs. And it's free! Available for iPhone/iPads only.
And my favorite, an app that takes the guess work out of medications and supplements, letting you know if they are safe or should be avoided. LactMed is a FREE app that allows you to quickly look up a drug, and see what the possible side effects might be regarding lactation and breastfeeding infants might be. And when appropriate, this app even suggests alternative drugs or supplements to consider. Available for Android and iPhones/iPads.
